Giulio Perugi graduated at the Medical School of the University of Pisa Italy in 1981 and went on to specialize in Psychiatry, taking his second degree in 1983. At the psychiatric department of the University of Pisa he is professor assistant and co-director of the outpatient services. He is one of the founders of the Institute of Behavioural Science “Gianfranco De Lisio” where he is responsible of the research and teaching programs. He taught Clinical Psychopharmacology and Childhood and Adolescence Psychiatry at the School of Specialization in Psychiatry of the University of Siena and now he is professor of Psychiatric Clinic and Pharmacotherapy at the school of specialization in Psychiatry at the University of Pisa. He spent numerous periods of study and research at the Cornell University in New York and at the University of South California in San Diego as “visiting scientist” and “visiting professor”. He is member of the European College of Neuro-Psycopharmacology and of the American Psychiatric Association. He cooperates at the international research program on mood disorders at the South California University of San Diego, developing numerous research projects on different aspects of mood disorders, from mixed states to mania, to atypical depression, and on anxiety disorders, in particular panic disorder, agoraphobia and social phobia. He published more than 350 national and international scientific papers on clinical psychopharmacology, psychiatric clinic, psychopathology and biological psychiatry. He is also author of numerous books and chapters of books on mood and anxiety disorders.
